Autumn (Fall) / Winter 2024 Hair Trends
Just as summer is giving us those last lovely rays of golden goodness let’s have a look at haircut and hair colour trends for this Autumn (fall) / Winter. We’ll explore the demand for low-maintenance beauty, resurgence of nostalgic styles and rich multi-dimensional colours.
Natural deep shades
- Copper and Red Tones: whether going for a fiery tone or a deeper luxurious one, we love these colours for their versatility and ability to brighten one’s complexion and add warmth in winter’s dimmer light.
- Brunettes and Multi-Dimensional Shades: We’re talking rich and sophisticated, cool-toned brunettes or opt for shades of caramel, chestnut, and amber for a more natural transition from summer to autumn. Working in a layered approach can bring a stunning multi-dimensional finish.
- Lived-in finishes: we touched on this for summer, but it keeps in demand such as subtle balayages that bring a natural lived-in look and require little maintenance. From a hair health perspective (which is super important to us) it brings an option which reduces the chance of damage too.
Nika, hairstylist at ESHK Hair Brooklyn ads: “2024 is all about embracing richer, more natural tones. We’re seeing a move away from cool-toned ash shades in favor of warm, earthy colors like chocolate browns, copper reds, and golden blondes. These hues add depth and dimension while still keeping the look soft and understated.”

Effortless yet chic cuts
- Blunt Bobs and Lobs: we love a nice bob cut, a great way to have a sharp statement style and bring out facial features. Just looks stunning from street to runway. It’s just one of those styles that keeps being in demand, super versatile, even if with just subtle changes. Blunt bobs will keep going as well as its longer sibling the ‘lob’, and the 90s layered variation of the ”butterfly lob”, providing a modern yet structured look.
- Choppy Layers and Textured Cuts: for curly and wavy hair in particular there’s no stopping the wolf cut, pixie cut, and kitty cut offer edgy yet playful alternatives, providing texture and volume. As usual with the colder months we’re looking at longer lengths and face-framing layers, blending the past with modern sensibilities.
- Fringes / Bangs: always a great way to update a style with just small changes, from choppy, face-framing fringes to soft waterfall bangs, fringes are seen as a way to update any hairstyle. A trend accessible to all hair types.
“This year, it’s all about embracing an effortlessly chic and natural look, focusing on softness, warmth, and simplicity.”, says Nika.

Styling Techniques and Accessories
- Soft, Airy Waves: a trend bringing a balance between elegance and ease, which can be achieved with large curling irons or blow-dryers to create effortless movement.
- Slicked-Back Styles and Clean Finishes: we’re talking elegant bond villain with a high-shine, polished look perfect for both runway and everyday wear. The emphasis here is on clean, refined finishes, with products like leave-in conditioners and serums used to create a lacquered effect.
- Buns and Updos: Embellished buns and sophisticated updos are popular styling choices, especially for special occasions. Pair it with high-end accessories like satin scrunchies or luxurious bows.
